Students, and society in general, are depending more and more on electronic devices and technology for the completion of daily tasks. Procedures need to be set up that allow the use of this technology to complete those tasks in a way that is not distracting during the school day and prevents the abuse of the use of those devices.

I think this arcticle is an example on how horrible technology can be and it should not be used excessively.

Dear Mr.Deblock this article is weird but it had a big impact on me. Why would anyone listen to their Ipod during school hours and miss the bell? Also, why would someone bring their DS in school?I think technology could sometimes be against you.

Dear Mr Deblock
This Newspaper article had a huge impact on me. It is really stupid to listen to an Ipod why school the school bell is ringing. These Highschool students are very stu[id because they had there cellphones on in class. At least if you brought it put it on vibrate.
October 25th, 2007 at 10:17 am
Technnology is rapidly invading the schools and teachers try as they may, cannot stop it. As said in this article, technology just overrides your authority Mr.DeBlock. I’m sure that teachers will eventually give in and use it to further the education of students.
October 25th, 2007 at 10:17 am
I think that for this school technology may not be a good thing. Cell phones turning on in class, people not hearing things because of Ipods, and texting in class. But I think our school doesn’t do that stuff, because all electronics must be turn off and in your locker. Also, the story had nothing to with technology invasions besides cell phone and 1 ipod story. And, also a “not-so subtle vibrate” on someones phone is impossible because vibrate is vibrate and it doesn’t make sound. In my opinion, I have no clue why they would put this article in the newspaper because all the time in schools cell phones turn on, so I dont know why they would write about this one.

This article is an example that people have been using technology too much in school. Kids should turn there phone off during classes. I ‘d like to say that technology is bad for students in school. By the way, this class is awesome. It is fun. Mr. DeBlock rules.
October 25th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
Techonlogy is not a good thing for this school. Kids should not have cell phones during class.Technology should not be allowed in any school.
October 25th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
This was a good artical i never where a phone in a class room that i don’t think it would ever happen but it must have. It amazed me that there were 50 kids that didn’t obay to the rules
October 25th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
I think this article is very interestiong. It told me about not being alowed to bring in electrinics and to not use them during school hours. I think people should not be allowed to use electronics during school because it affects the students learning and they won’t get good grades if they arent paying attention. Students should only be allowed to use phones, iPods, and other electronic devices once they get outside of the school building. Finally, if people use their electronic devices during classes, they should get detentions and their parents should take the device away.
October 25th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
This article is an example of kids using technology during school. i believe that they should be punished but it depends on what they did. If they were listening to it during class then they shouldn’t be as much as if you were late for the next class because you were listening to it then they should get it taken away. If their phone went off during class they shouldn’t be punished because it was probably not on purpose. They probably forgot to turn it on silent or turn it off in the beging of school. You cant take away there phone because if they need to call your parents and tell them were you are or if your asking for something.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:03 am
Why would you bring an electronical device to school, and use it? It is pretty much like saying” Hi dont don’t care about $100 so i’ll just give it to you until my parents come.” Luckily it is not much of a problem for eisenhower but still a little.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:03 am
I agree that cellphones and ipods need to be band!
If they are on silent th kids will still use them! If you are caught you should give your phone or ipod into your teacher. by Jimmy

i agree with this article, and cell phones do go off during classes and in the halls. People also take pictures of people and things during some classes. The only reason our cafe isn’t filled with kids having detention, is because the teachers don’t hear or see it, because the kids are sneeky. The only thing i think teachers and parents can do about this is if they see someone with a cell phone take it away from them and at the end of the day give it back. And after three times of that they get a detention. But the good thing about cell phones is that after school if a tudent is late or a parent can’t pick them up they can just call or text their kid. That’s what i think abou this article.

I agree that technology is a problem, but not in EMS as much. I’ve heard some cases of people using phones and being told to put them away, but that was only AFTER school was over and the bell had rung. I think that you should be able to use the device after the bell has rung.

I disagree with the article becuause i don’t think cell phones or other technology is a major problem. People need cell phones for activites or tto call there mom or dad after school if the parent forgets to come. People could be strande outside and have to walk home if they don’t have cell phones to call their parnts. This is not an issue in Eisenhower school becuase i don’t see kids playing video games or a gym full of kids who used their cell phones in class. My finale comment is that kids need cell phones, and should not be taken away from them

I disagree because if there is an emergency you need your cell phone! But I also agree to this article. Why would someone already in detention bring a Nintendo DS the got him in detention. This is really not smart! This sure isn’t a problem at Eisenhower because no one is aloud to use cell phones. It is exactly like the bubble gum problem. You have to be able to control yourself and not chew or put it on vibrate or silent. For crying out loud I bet only 43% even have a cell phone!! ^_^

Josh . I agree with this article because technology really has taken over our lives. If your mom takes away your cell phone you can always go on your computer. Now everything that is taken away will probably be replaceable. I think this is a problem at Eisenhower only in the 7th and 8th grade.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Dear mr. deblock, this artical is weird but i think kids should be able to hav there cell phones off in class but in there pockets or purses. They should be able to listen to there ipod before class or in between periods, maybe at lunch, if there things get lost its there responcibility, there parents have no right to call you and say ” your student has lost there 500 doller ipod and i don’t want to buy them a new one!!!!!!” its not yur fault there the ones who lost it right? I’m just saying us student should have a choice to do that, after all were going t have to make choices in life to right? we have to make the right choice we could have the choice of dissobeying or leaveing our phones and ipods in our pockets off in our pockets, were gonna have to make big choices in life, this is one of them.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Dear Mr.DeBlock
I disagree with the authors decision that you shouldn’t bring electronics to school for sevral reasons 1st we have o bring our cell phones to contact our parents and friens and were kids for crying out loud we need them
We also need i pods too because,if we take the bus what are we sopposed to do stare at the pach on the back of the seat no your soposed to listen to you favorite music yea you sholdent leave the devises on during class but you should still be alou to bring them to school
I don’t think we should get in trouble for having our phones on during class because it’s not our fault if it goes on it’s the person who called us fault so we shouldn’t have to have to take them away
but we should have the i pods takin away because it is our fault if we listen to them : love Rebecca

I agree with Donanta Locket. I think that her artical is very interesting. I agree with the author of this artical because I think that they should be punished for what hey did in clss that day. They shold be getting punished because it was durning school house. If it was not durning school hours it would be none of the teachers and princapal’s business. But since it was, they should be getting punished for what thety did. They probably were : texting in class, or listing to their I – Pod, or on their cell phone. No, I don’t think that this problem occurs at EMS bewcause all electronicts should be in your locker turned off, or they will be taken away. Some suggestions for parents : stop paying the cell phone bills (like they said in the artical) or take them away. If it was an I – Pod some suggestion : can’t download anymore songs or take it way or hide it from them. You have to keep doing that until they learn their lesson, and stop doing the bad things in their class. That is why I agree with this artical that Donata Locket wrote.

I agree with the author. Now a days peoples live revolve around so much technoogy. Like just talking to your cousin or seeing what the weather will be like tomorrow. I do and don’t think Eisenhower is is affected by this. I say this because almost everyone at school as a cell-phone in school but teachers just don’t see them. But there are strict rules here about using cell-phones at school. I think it is rude to use a cell-phone while your teacher is working hard to teach you. But the person might be able to pay attention too. Mabye they could have also forgot to merely turn it off and still get it confiscated. I would never do it well hat is mainly because I do not have a cellpone or ipod. Also because I do no like being disrepectful or breaking the rules and I try to pay attention.

I dissagree with the author because we should be alowed to use cellphone for emergency perposes. Plus a nintendo DS is for entrtainment! Not Fair! The Nintendo can have games based on math, spelling, and many other sujects!

Donata Lockett’s article was very interesting. When I was reading this article I could just imagine walking into a high school and seeing lots of students not obeying the school policy. I agree with her that lots of people do use their cellphones in school and other electronics. When I read this I was a little suprised that a girl that was new to the and was listening to their ipod and missed the first ten minutes of school. 1 that is telling the teacher that it is not going to be a good year with this girl. When you walked by the gym and saw how many people were in detention because they did not follow the school policy. When you looked in you saw that their was a boy still not following the rule and playing their nintendo ds. I do think that you could fix this problem but it might not be to easy. You could try hanging up posters in your school or maybe even try and get someone to come to the school and tell all the students in a fun way that diobeying the school policy may cause a lot of punishment. I do think that their is a little problem in the school because some people do listen to their ipods and play with their cellphones and also chew gum. The people that usually do that end getting caught but some don’t and do deserve a punishment. In my school when you get caught the teacher does make you have your parents come and retrieve your electronic and make you go spit out your gum in front of the class. I think your article was very good and will make some schools have less problems if more students hear about this article. I really enjoyed reading your article.

I agree with the author since sometimes these things happen with technology and it sometimes become a problem. These things haven’t been a problem here since I’ve been at Eisenhower. Some schools with problems should either ban cellphones or other electronics or tell them strictly to leave them in their lockers. Also, for students who have problems with these electronics, those parents should not let their children bring their cellphones or other source of technology to school with them.
November 30th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
I totally agree with the author. Even though parents can be strict, technology is simply more powerful. This might be a little problem at Eisinhower. I’ve heard that some students have had their cell phone on during school and one person even called her! It’s stupid to even bring your I-Pod to school, let alone using it. – Catharine
November 30th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
I agree with the author because if you are to concentrated on your cellphones, laptops, etc then you won’t learn! But the stuff in this article is not a problem at Eisenhower, though one day I bet it will be. schools can stop this problem by banning ALL electronics outside of school unless you get permission by a teacher. parents and kids can help this problem stop by making sure they only pack the essentials for school. HI MOM!
November 30th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
I think this article author is right. First of all, this is a little inappropreate because they are in highschool. You can bring your cell phone to school in case something happens and it’s an emergency. It should be turned off during school hours because why would you need your phone on during school anyway. As for the other things, DO NOT BRING THEM TO SCHOOL AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those things ARE NOT nessasary to bring to school at all because YOU WILL NOT NEED THEM! Trust me.

I agree because even in Eishenhower people text each other. Even during class or when ever they can actually.I don’t know who does it but people talk about it.I also think you shouldn’t go on inapropriate websites either in school because you’ll just get in more trouble. I think kids just shouldn’t use this stuff unless they need it because these things cost a lot of money. But kids still should be able to bring there cellphones, ipods and other stuff to school.

Dear Mr. DeBlock,
I dissagree because if there is an imergency people should be allowed to have there cell phone to call there parents. I think it is wrong to be using your cell phone or iPod during school, but they should be allowed, just have them off. i dont think this happens often in EMS because people dont just walk into class with thier iPod on. A persons cell phone will go off in class once and a while, but not so many times in one day or even in one class. Also, I think it would be embarrising to just walk into a class listening to an iPod because that teacher may be strict. Sometimes I see this girl walking around at Midday Fittnes listening to her iPod but I doubt this girl uses it during class because it is agenst the school policy.

Dear Mr. DeBlock,
I agree with this article completely. Technology s invading our generation’s lives. I-Pods, Cell Phones, Portable Game Systems, they are invading us. Students can slip-up with bringing their cell phone to class, but some kids bring their cell phones to class on purpose. As Eisenhower Middle School, in 6th grade, I have only seen this happen once or twice. I do not know what happens in the other classes and grades. I think that when cell phones go off, the teachers should take it away as they do now. Also, they should have the student bring their cell phone up to the teacher, like they do with spitting out your gum in front of the entire class.
But, I do think that it is important for people to have cell phones. They can really help you when you are having an emergency or problem with many things. For example, the bus, or at anafter school club or activite.
I think that Donata Lockett is a very smart persn who knows what is up with her schoo, other schools, and the technological world. I liked this atricle very much.
Sincerely,
Amanda

I think that this artical is very true and I really agree with what she is saying. I thik it is true although I don’t know what I would do without technology. I think it is fair that if you overuse something then it should be taken away from you. I don’t really think it is fair that your parents have to pay your cell phone bill. My parents pay my cell phone bill but if I go over my limits I get it taken away for about one or two weeks. people are getting to caught up in technoloy that they are starting to forget obout other people that they are making fun of

i really enjoyed reading this article and i thought it was interesting…here is what i think..
i totally disagree with this because we NEED electronics for couple reasons: to call our parents/friends, for emergency reasons, texting, entertainment, and music! but if they used during periods/classes, they deserved to have it taken away and get it back at the end of the day because they should have know better…
i don’t think it would be a problem in sixth grade but in seventh and eighth grade because they are older and it’s the time they get cell phones…and i’m sure they got detentions mostly of electronics.
what should school do about this issue? hmm..they can get after school detention..having parents know or having a discussion with parents about their student..
November 30th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
This is not a problem as much in our school school. I am sure this problem will grow and younger grades will be stating to have this problem after a while. I think it is pretty rare here for some ones ring tone to star blasting, but in a couple of years who knows what will happen. The only time we here something from a cell phone it is a small beep showing it is turning off. That is not very common though. I think the best way to stop the problem is for people to leave there cell phones in there lockers!

I think ems has a similar problem but not as bad. I thought that the artical was well written, thought through very well and that stundents should be a little wiser with their technology. I also think that if some stundents took a minunt to think that if they have to hide what their doing then they shouldn’t do it. and i don’t think that they should band techonlgy in school, also they shouldn’t take the stundents electronical device and then call the parnet and let them decide if they want to leave the device there or ake it back. I think that they should send a note home or just call home. But if there is a constent problem then they should go to more drastic mesuras.

I think that she made a great statment. I have seen that many kids in EMS keep their cell phones on durring class. This incident would nor have happened if they left them off. When Donata says that technology will allways win because it is more upgraded and expencive and it would be bad to get it taken away from the kids. I think that kids texting is very bad and it is very excessive. I say that all kids shouldl leave their cell phones in their lockers of or on all sounds off. This is a very big problem in EMS. More and more kids each day are getting detenion from them ringing in class this is why I think they should ban cell phones in class. Her punnishment for her cell phone problem was good. So I think that Donata made a great statment about cell phones and electronic devicies in school.

I can’t belive people have their cell phones on in school. This is serious disrespect to t he teachers if they are texting or calling someone. This has happened before in Eisenhower Middle School, somones cell phone went off as someone was texting them. The teacher took the cell phone away and gave the person a detention. This is what the person deserves as they shouldn’t be texting during class. Although i have only seen this like two times i think it isn’t a big problem in EMS. This is a big problem in some schools when a cell phone is getting taken away basicly like every period. More and more kids every day are getting a detention for texting or calling during school hours, I think this is fair if the person calling or texting does get their phone taken away or gets a detention. I never plan on calling or texting during school hours unless it is a emergency, therefor I would call or text the police or my mom or dad or somone to help in this emergency.
